Austin, Texas claims a prestigious position as the dynamic capital city of the state of Texas and the seat of Travis County.  Located along the Colorado River in the lovely region of Central Texas, Austin serves as a scenic gateway to the renowned Texas Hill Country.  Numerous amenities and advantages make Austin an ideal city in which to live, work or visit.

According to the Census 2000, Austin’s population was 656,562. Austin is the fourth largest city in Texas and the sixteenth largest in the United States. T he Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area holds an estimated population of 1.4 million people. The citizenry spans from business executives to college students, with a diverse international population that adds to the rich cultural atmosphere.

Characterized by a blend of gently rolling hills, flat prairies and shimmering lakes, Austin, TX offers visitors a wide variety of recreational options.  This popular tourist destination has two lakes inside the city limits and five more to the northwest, completing the Highland Lakes chain. Town Lake bisects Austin, providing a visually pleasing respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. Three hundred days of sunshine provide the ideal environment for enjoying biking, boating, hiking, swimming and water skiing. The Congress Avenue Bridge is home to the largest known urban bat population. Each summer residents and tourists enjoy watching more than 1.5 million Mexican Free-tailed Bats migrate to Mexico.

Austin, Texas retains historic charm, while steadily moving into the future. Popular historic destinations include the Texas State Capitol Complex, Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum, the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library and Museum and the Governor’s Mansion.  Striking architectural styles, lively music, shops and various restaurants spread throughout Austin, in well-known areas such as 6th Street or South Congress Avenue.  Made up of buildings that are modest in height, Austin’s skyline highlights the view of the Texas Capitol Building.

Austin, TX boasts a thriving economy with the promise of even more growth in the near future. Some of Austin’s largest employers include Dell, IBM, SETON Healthcare Network and the University of TexasHoover’s Inc. is a business research and publishing firm that headquarters in Austin. Austin’s concentration of high-tech companies felt the dramatic rise and subsequent fall of the dot-com boom in the 1990’s; however, the city has largely recuperated from any resulting damages. Residents have an astounding array of career choices from which to choose, with the median household income ranking slightly above the nation’s average.

Graduates of Austin’s fine colleges and universities contribute to the entrepreneurial spirit of the business sectors. Higher learning facilities include Concordia University, Huston-Tillotson University, St. Edward’s University and University of Texas at Austin. The University of Texas, whose flagship campus is in Austin, is one of the nation’s largest universities. Austin, Texas is also home to an outstanding public school system and a wide variety of private and parochial schools from which to choose.
