Benny Hughes has a general business practice with emphasis on
corporate, wills, and probate, trust matters, estate planning, and
business transactions. He received a bachelor's degree in business
with highest honors from the University of Texas at Austin in 1956.
Benny went on to earn a Master's of Professional Accounting in 1959
and his law degree, with honors, in 1960 from the University of Texas
School of Law.
While attending the University of Texas School of Law, he was Grand
Chancellor, Editor-in-Chief of the Texas Law Review, and member of the
Order of the Coif.
Benny became a CPA in 1957, but is now on inactive status.
Benny came to the firm in 1960 and became a partner in 1965. He has
been of counsel since 1995, but is still practicing full time.
Benny is a former President and Director of the Jefferson County
Bar Association and the Texas Law Review Association. He has served on
the planning committee and as a speaker at the University of Texas
School Tax Conference. He was also a member of the legal committee of
the Edison Electric Institute in Washington, D.C.
He has been listed for several years in The Best Lawyers in Texas
and as a Texas Super Lawyer.
His community and other activities have included, among others,
Past President and Director of Beaumont Public Schools Foundation;
Past President and Trustee of South Park Independent School District;
Former Director of YMCA, Beaumont Chamber of Commerce, Beaumont
Economic Development Foundation, Beaumont Music Commission, Family and
Children's Services; Former Vestryman at St. Stephen's Episcopal
Church and Trustee of Church Foundation; Trustee of Southwest Research
Institute in San Antonio, Texas; Past President and Director of
Beaumont Rotary Club; and Advisory Director of Hibernia National Bank
in Beaumont, Texas.
Benny practices primarily in the firm's office in Beaumont.
