D.
Allan Jones is active in both the trial and appellate areas. Although
his practice is primarily involved with claims based on toxic tort,
products liability, or premises liability, he also has an active
practice in class actions and insurance coverage liability litigation.
He is Board Certified in both Personal Injury Trial Law and Civil
Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. In 2003 he was
listed in Texas Monthly as a Texas Super Lawyer under the category of
Class Action and Mass Torts.
Allan currently oversees the statewide toxic tort docket for two of
the firm's clients. He has represented clients in many types of
chemical exposure cases, including asbestos, silica, benzene, and
butadiene. He has also handled a variety of air, soil, and water
pollution claims.
Allan's class action practice has been varied, including claims
involving medical devices, building products, video rental fees,
insurance settlement practices, and computer components.
Allan was the trial and appellate attorney for Temple-Inland Forest
Products Corporation in Temple-Inland Forest Products Corporation v.
Carter, 993 S.W.2d 88 (Tex. 1999), in which the Texas Supreme Court
ruled that "fear of cancer" cases are not actionable in
Texas in the absence of a present illness.
Before obtaining his law degree, Allan earned his bachelor's degree
in English from the University of Florida in 1970 and a master's
degree in English from Western Carolina University in 1972. He taught
literature and composition at Western Carolina University and
Southwest Missouri State University prior to law school and at the
University of Texas while in law school.
Allan graduated with honors from the University of Texas School of
Law in 1979, where he was an editor of the Texas International Law
Journal.
Allan practices primarily in the firm's office in Beaumont.
