Martha J. “Marty” Stone maintains a varied law practice that focuses on appellate law, consumer and commercial litigation, insurance coverage and personal injury. She has handled appeals all the way to the Texas Supreme Court level and presents seminars throughout East Texas on legal research and writing and appellate practice. Additionally, Marty has extensive experience in construction law.

Marty graduated magna cum laude from Kalamazoo College in Michigan, where she earned a Bachelor’s of Arts degree and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Fraternities.  She earned her Master’s of Arts degree from the University of Michigan and graduated cum laude from the South Texas College of Law in December 2001.  While at South Texas, Marty was a member of the South Texas Law Review, Order of the Lytae, and Phi Delta Phi Honor Fraternity.  She also interned for two Federal judges from the Southern District of Texas: the Honorable Sim Lake and the Honorable David Hittner. 

Upon graduation from South Texas, Marty clerked for the Honorable John S. Anderson of the Texas Fourteenth Court of Appeals during its 2002-2003 term before joining the civil litigation firm, Miller Scamardi & Carrabba, P.C., where she practiced insurance defense and appellate law prior to joining OBT.

Before she earned her law degree, Marty had a successful career in public relations and marketing, including service as the Director of Marketing and Communications for a statewide network of nursing care communities and service as the editor of several employee publications for St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital.  

Marty is admitted to practice law in the State of Texas, State of Florida, and before the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas.  She is a member of the Houston Bar Association, Woodlands Bar Association, Montgomery County Bar Association, Women’s Energy Network, and Texas Association of Defense Counsel, where she has served as editor of the TADC's commercial litigation newsletter.

Marty is married to David W. Stone and is the mother of two grown children. 

She practices primarily in the firm's office in The Woodlands.
