Julia Matheny maintains a varied trial practice
that focuses primarily on commercial, insurance coverage, personal
injury, and property damage litigation in state and federal court.
Julia has also defended employers against claims of various
types of employment discrimination, retaliation, and sexual
harassment and against wage-and-hour claims brought as collective
actions under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
In addition, Julia has
experience defending against claims for misrepresentation and breach
of fiduciary duty brought under the Employee Retirement Income
Security Act (ERISA).
Julia is admitted to practice in all State
trial and appellate courts in
Texas
and in the United States District Court for the Southern District of
Texas.
Julia graduated cum laude from Baylor Law School in 2004, where she served as an
Executive Editor for the Baylor Law Review and was a member of the
Order of the Barristers.
Julia was also a member of Baylor’s National Moot Court team
and TYLA Moot Court team.
Julia graduated magna cum laude from Vanderbilt University in 2001, where she received a
bachelor of arts degree in political science and was selected for
membership in Phi Beta Kappa.
Julia was named
a Texas Rising Star in the area of business litigation by Texas
Monthly and Law & Politics in 2009.
She is a member of the Houston Bar Association
and the Houston Young Lawyers Association.
Julia practices primarily in the firm’s office
in Beaumont.
